NGV, food and fun~

Today I went out with my friends Diana and Kim to have a nice catch up day. I had wanted to go to the NGV (National Gallery of Victoria) to see the exhibits and enjoy myself around art for some time now so I was overjoyed being finally able to go. It is also free entry for anyone who is interested in checking out the place. It really is very pretty as you will see~ ;)

I wore a cute blazer today that was given to me by a friend (and I have never returned; I'm so sorry!!!) and when I was deciding what to wear this morning, found the inner lining for the arms was a cute pinstripe pattern! I think I just fell in love with it completely now (and I don't think I am going to want to return it any time soon now... hahahaha).

At NGV, there were lots of coins in the fountain at the front of the building so I thought I should make a wish too and threw in all the useless 5 cent coins I had been carrying with me. I put them to good use! I hope my dream comes true...

^Something about this just makes me smile. I'd never seen Adam and Eve portrayed like this.^

^This dog is absolutely adorable!^

As you can see, there really is a lot of amazing things for display but something that really caught my eye was the piece above. It is in fact from the Manstyle exhibit that I was interested in checking out, and by Vivienne Westwood, one of my favourite designers. Obviously this isn't wearable for public but the detail and inspiration that has been pulled into this look is something that proves to me why Vivienne Westwood has survived as such a successful designer for such a long time. Through out all these years, her designs are still relevant and there is something incredibly awe-inspiring in that.

^Hello reflection of me!^

^My friend told me this man has a perfect face... too bad I don't look anything like that! Hahahaha.^

This piece of art was something that really caught my eye as well. It's a sheep protecting it's dead child from a flock of gathering crows. There is something so emotive in it and I really should have inquired as to who the artist is because the image really resonated within me. I could stare at it all day. It's so tragic yet heartwarming and makes me just feel like... ahh. I'm really quite terrible at putting my thoughts into words when something is really touching to me. Images like this, despite how depressing they are, make me want to be like that sheep; fighting for something they love no matter what that entails.

^This roof is so pretty! I would have stared at it longer if it wasn't for the people on the lower storey being so loud and disruptive!^

^This is actually a tea pot! How clever! And on the opposite side was a woman's face as well.^

Did you notice anything about the last three pictures? Maybe you should look up again before you read this. :)

This painting is entitled "The banquet of Cleopatra" by Giambattista Tiepolo and is depicting the story of when Cleopatra challenged Mark Antony into seeing who could create a more excessive, expensive banquet. You can always search online for the entire story however, to cut it short, it ends with Cleopatra winning the bet through dropping her priceless pearl earring into a glass of vinegar and drinking it.

Looking at the painting itself however you may have noticed the lines on the floor always face you no matter what angle you look at it from. It is an optical illusion! I was actually taken aback because I wasn't aware of it at all till on of the nice security guards hinted it to us.

Thank you security guard!

After staying at the NGV for a fair while, I started getting restless and reverted to my camera whoring self so we called it a day and relaxed with food from San Churro to end our day.

^My friend's order^
^My order! Banana Lombada and churros we bought to share^

In the end it was a really fun and interesting day and I hope to visit NGV again in the next few months and see more friends as I enjoy my two weeks of holidays from university.

Thank you for coming to my blog and I hope if you enjoyed reading you will come and look again! Bye bye. :)

HI Chris. I’m Peter and I find your blog very interesting. I‘ve recently returned from New Zealand so I was practically in your neighborhood for some time. Unfortunately my schedule was tight so I couldn’t visit The National Gallery of Victoria and give a closer, detail look at Giambattista Tiepolo’s masterpiece The Banquet of Cleopatra. Nevertheless I think you’re cutie and it’s only a compliment. Stay beautiful.
